Conservation
challenges
Stare Powązki is not only a necropolis, but also a historic monument. In 2014, together with the neighboring cemeteries (Jewish, Caucasian, Tatar, Evangelical-Augsburg, and Calvinist), it was recognized as part of the historic complex of denominational cemeteries in Powązki, which was designated a monument of history.
Such a vast complex, open to the elements and covering as much as 43 hectares, requires proper care and conservation. Preserving the monuments and buildings in good condition is a real challenge for heritage conservators.
